Nevada Claims for False Employment Promises

Overview

It is unlawful to induce workers to change from one place to another, or to bring workers into Nevada, through false or deceptive representations about the kind of work, the amount or character of compensation, sanitary or other employment conditions, or the existence of a strike or labor dispute.

Employee Rights

A worker induced by prohibited false statements may recover damages caused by changing place of employment or, if then unemployed, place of abode. The court may award a reasonable attorney’s fee to the prevailing party. The Nevada Supreme Court has held that changing employers can satisfy the statute even without a residential move.

Practical Steps

  • Save offer letters, texts, emails, and recruiting ads.
  • Compare promised pay, title, and duties with what you actually received.
  • Act promptly; related claims may involve short criminal or civil timelines.
